The concept of dreaming is that the scariest thing that we can try is the exact thing that we must do. Walk on the moon, fly, break speed records, climb the highest peak. The hard things show us who we are. The scary things are what separate the dreamers from the doers.
That being the case, Jason Shephard is a man who epitomizes dreams coming true. Moving from a firm foundation he knew in Chicago was my first sign of a man pursuing his dream. The recent releases and Word Network appearances cemented, in my mind, that we are witnessing the truth of this dream.
Jason Shephard studied music at Chicago’s prestigious Columbia College. A place that has spawned talents like Tone Ross, Ivory Ocean, Jonathan McReynolds and myself. He worked tirelessly on the Chicago Gospel music scene and honed his gift as a worshipper and songwriter, masterfully gracing powerful lyrics with solid flowing orchestration.
Despite his trials and triumphs, Jason has never strayed away from his conviction nor has he ever moved from his calling to encourage The Body of Christ. He takes every opportunity given to connect with people both on and off the stage.
This is evident in his heartfelt tribute to his own mother, Hazel Glass Shephard, which he made available free on digital media (“Thank You Mama”available at www.therealjshep.com) on Mother’s Day 2014 and got wonderful reviews and radio play in several nationwide markets. He also uses his blog, Facebook Page and YouTube Channel to encourage and educate artists and minstrels on things both business and spiritual.
Jason’s music has always had substance and the most recent example, “Take Me Back Unplugged” (featuring the smooth vocals of Vanessa Hill) , is one of the many tunes you can enjoy at his upcoming CD Release show on Friday, April 10th @ The Music Garage. Although he has migrated to Houston, he still maintains a strong following and is coming home to share this latest offering with his first musical family. If you are in Chicago and miss him at the release, you can see him doing what he does best on April 12th, making the most of his hometown visit. He will be part of the Chicago Youth Conference event called The Box.
Celebrating 10 years of marriage to his lovely wife, Stacie Wood Shephard, Jason is the template for how a man/husband/father should embody his beliefs in every aspect of life. The only thing that I can say bad about Mr. Shephard is that he is an avid Chicago Cubs fan, which opposes my love for the White Sox but hey, everyone needs grace.
Some may call it colossal self belief. Others may see it as dream chasing. Whatever the case, J Shep is a man who follows God’s lead for his life and, in turn. uplifts the Body of Christ through preached Word and music ministry. We pray his continued success and we pray that you follow the happenings of Jason Shephard. Dreamer, Artist, Vessel.
Here is one of Jason’s statements of faith in this official music video for “I Can Depend On God”. Enjoy.
