The word agree has a definite and clear meaning. It is an appropriate sentiment for people of faith who trust wholeheartedly in God and the strength of community. James Johnson‘s song “Agree” is an anthem for those people.
After facing a life-altering diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis, this minister of music at Cedar Street Baptist Church of God in Richmond Virginia, embarked on a national prayer campaign, The campaign, titled as the song, was inspired by the recovery of a family member from cancer and his own personal health journey. Its purpose is to connect with people and become a faith-affirming conduit for God to move on the behalf of others. Knowing the backstory makes me love the song even more. It’s not just another tune for the radio, it is a message with purpose.
I came to hear Johnson’s music via my connection with artist TBII. I am glad for the connection and equally glad for the (albeit accidental) discovery of his music. This is a some that says something. Not just flowery words of poetic prose, it says something powerful and important. This beautiful ballad begins with simple but solid musical arrangement and vocals that paint a picture that we all know from life experience.
It’s a top-notch offering; vocally, musically, lyrically and emotionally, right on par with anything coming from Smokie Norful, Marvin Sapp or Donald Lawrence. It was no surprise to find that James was a Music Director. His vocal arrangement skills shine through brilliantly. The background vocals are nothing short of amazing delicate yet powerful.
Johnson is no stranger to the spotlight. The award-winning songwriter and producer is consistent with his selfless, God-glorifying message. He recorded “More Of You” with the Arkansas Mass Choir and has a number of successful songs under his belt.
Johnson reminds us of the powerful charge to uphold in Matthew 18:19 with this song. Every Congregation, every Worship Team, every Choir should take this song and add it to their repertoire. It is declarative, and uplifting, which is what every Believer needs. In keeping with the definition of the word, I stand firm with Johnson and his belief in God’s power. I concur with the principles his music conveys and I would hope that you would Agree to add James Johnson and “Agree” to your music library. I wholeheartedly concur with his song’s sentiment:”Our need is critical, so we agree on a miracle.” His East Coast flavor and Spirit-led ministry make him an Artist You Should Know.
Enjoy a live performance of James Johnson Jr.’s faith-inspiring song “Agree“.
